The Book of Psalm is one of my favorite books of the bible. It is written in a poetic format which really makes you helps you make a connection with the emotion of the author.

Similar to the book of Proverbs, the book of Psalm offers valuable life lessons that you and I can use daily.

Hereunder are 12 practical life lessons that you and I can learn from the Book of Psalm:

The Need of Relying on God

Psalm 127 v 1
Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

The Word of God as Counsel

Psalm 1 v 1
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, not standeth in the way of sinners, not sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

Psalm 119 v 24
Thy testimonies also are my delight, and my counselors.

Psalm 119 v 98-104
Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.

I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

I have refrained my feet from evil way, that I might keep thy word.

I have not departed from thy judgements: for thou hast taught me.

How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth.

Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

Psalm 119 v 105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Psalm 119 v 133
Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Psalm 119 v 140
Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

Psalm 119 v 152
Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them forever.

Psalm 119 v 162
I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.

Psalm 119 v 165
Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

The Source of our Strength

Psalm 18 v 2
The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Psalm 18 v 32
It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

Psalm 28 v 7
The Lord is my strength and my shield: my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Psalm 37 v 39
But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

Psalm 118 v 14
The Lord is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.

The Importance of Fearing the Lord

Psalm 25 v 12
What man is he that feareth the Lord? Him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.

The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him: and he will show them his covenant.

Psalm 31 v 19
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee: which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!

Psalm 111 v 10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth forever.

Psalm 118 v 6
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

Psalm 145 v 19
He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

Psalm 147 v 11
The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, on those that hope in his mercy.

To Consider the Poor

Psalm 41 v 1-3
Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in the time of trouble.

The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.

The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.

The Benefit of Meekness

Psalm 22 v 26
The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live forever.

Psalm 22 v 9
The meek will he guide in judgement: and the meek will he teach his way.

Psalm 147 v 6
The Lord lifeth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

Psalm 149 v 4
For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

The Need to Tame the Tongue

Psalm 34 v 13
Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

The Value of Trusting in the Lord

Psalm 5 v 11
But let all those that put trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

Psalm 9 v 10
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast forsaken them that seek thee.

Psalm 28 v 7-8
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. The Lord is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.

Psalm 34 v 9
O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Psalm 56 v 4
In God I will praise his word, in God have I put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

Psalm 118 v 8-9
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

Psalm 125 v 1
They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth forever.

Recognition for the Need for Thanksgiving

Psalm 92 v 1
It is a good thing to give thanks and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High.

Psalm 118 v 1
O Give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

The Importance of Seeking God for Direction

Psalm 37 v 5
Commit thy way unto to the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Psalm 37 v 23
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

The Advantage of Waiting on God

Psalm 27 v 14
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

Psalm 37 v 1
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

Psalm 37 v 34
Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

The Lord is the Ultimate Provider

Psalm 23 v 1
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalm 55 v 22
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer righteous to be moved.

Psalm 75 v 6
For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
